SUY NIỆM

Tin mừng hôm nay rất quen thuộc với mọi tín hữu, qua trình thuật cám dỗ này người tin nhận biết rằng Đức Giêsu Kitô của mình là Thiên Chúa thật và là người thật. Việc Đức Giêsu chịu cám dỗ minh chứng rằng Ngài đã nên giống chúng ta trong mọi phương diện, Ngài kinh nghiệm những lo lắng, hoài nghi và sợ hãi giống như chúng ta. Ba điều cám dỗ mà Đức Kitô phải đối mắt, cũng chính là cám dỗ của mỗi người chúng ta trong cuộc sống mỗi ngày. Điều thứ nhất là cám dỗ về việc lo lắng cho bản thân thay vì hướng đến tha nhân; điều thứ hai là nại vào sức riêng và tài trí để giải quyết mọi việc theo cách của mình hơn là để cho đường lối của Chúa được thực hiện; cuối cùng là về việc chú tâm vào vẻ hào nhoáng, tốt lành bên ngoài để lôi kéo nhằm đạt được mục đích mình muốn. Nói một cách khác, trình thuật cám dỗ thách đố Chúa Giêsu và hội thánh phải diễn tả hình ảnh CON THIÊN CHÚA – Đấng Messia như thế nào? Thiên Chúa-Giáo Hội đầy quyền lực như mọi người mong đợi hay Thiên Chúa-Giáo Hội phục vụ người nghèo khổ, bị sỉ nhục và bị hành hạ cho đến chết… Đối diện với những thách đố khó khăn Đấng Messia và Giáo hội có nên dùng quyền lực và sức mạnh để giải quyết mọi sự một cách mau chóng dễ dàng, hay khiêm tốn chịu đựng để thể hiện khuôn mặt nhân từ và lòng xót thương vô bờ của Thiên Chúa. Suy gẫm Tin Mừng hôm nay, hình bóng Giáo hội Úc Châu và Giáo hội hoàn vũ đang bị cám dỗ rất rõ ràng. Đặc biệt qua việc kết án Hồng y George Pell. Chúng ta phải hành xử thế nào để có thể bảo vệ được công lý và sự thật mà vẫn phản chiếu được khuôn mặt của Đức Kitô cho thế giới hôm nay. Nguyện xin Chúa ban ơn đức tin, khôn ngoan và can đảm cho tất cả chúng con. Amen (J.Tuyen)

The episode of the temptations is a clear indicator of the humanity of Jesus – he experienced doubt, uncertainty and fear just as we do. If the gospel intended to emphasise the divinity of Jesus, none of these temptations would have been an issue. We are told that Jesus was indeed tempted, not just pestered by the devil. The opportunities laid before Jesus were actually tempting to him. They challenged his resolve. They made Jesus question the sort of Messiah that he was to be: the all-conquering, powerful Messiah that the people expected; or the servant to the poor who will be tortured and put to death. Jesus is tempted to use his power to make his task easier or to display his authority to others. Had he chosen to do this, surely it would have been easier to get people’s attention – and that was the temptation: to take the easier path or stick to the more subtle, more personal, more difficult path.

Living the Gospel: The 40 days that Jesus spent praying and preparing in the wilderness is reflected in the season of Lent that lasts 40 days from Ash Wednesday until the day before Easter Sunday (not counting Sundays in the season). It has been traditional that during the time of Lent Christian people renew their efforts in prayer, fasting and almsgiving. All three of these practices are actions of preparation. Just as Jesus prepared for his ministry in the wilderness, so too is Lent an opportunity for us to be deliberate about our reflection on what we are called to do in this world. (From Liturgical help)
